5 Rules In Website Desig
By paying attention to the smallest details of your Web site, you can be sure to maximize its effectiveness, writes Web developer Bhu D. Suro. "Splash" pages should not be used; these are opening pages that have nothing but an image and text like "enter here" or "welcome." All splash pages do is give the audience a chance to leave the site without seeing anything important. Web users have learned to not pay attention to banner advertisements, so Suro recommends using this space to present them with more useable content that has links woven into it; customers should be coaxed into wanting to buy something rather than being pushed into it. Complicated menus, such as Flash-based or multi-tier dropdowns, are not a good idea, since they make it difficult for users to find their way around. Users should always be able to find out where they are, which will make it easy for them find the information they want. Finally, audio loops decrease the chances that users will stay on a site for a long time, so if you must have audio, be sure to include controls that allow the user to turn the sound off.
